I was born in Holland, New York, and lived there until I was 15. I then moved to Interlochen Michigan with my family. We had bought a log cabin resort named Ellis Lake Inn where I helped my parents run the business.
Â
I married my wife Edise in 1983 and joined the Army. I spent twelve years on active duty, 15 in the Michigan National Guard, and 11 years in the Army Reserve for thirty-eight years. My most rewarding time was when I was stationed at FT Benning and was able to work with the wounded warriors.
Â
I came from a long history of soldiers. On my mother's side, she had three brothers who served in the Korean and Vietnam wars. On My dad's side, his father served in WW1 and my dad served in the New York National Guard. My youngest son is now serving in the Army reserve.
Â
I am blessed with three children who have given my wife and me eight awesome grandchildren.
Â
I am the Vice commander for the Frankfort American Legion Post 221. I went on Mission16 with two Vietnam-era brothers as their guardians and was so impressed with the organization that I kept hounding Bob and Kathy to let me be involved. I was asked to be a board member in April of 2024 and I accepted.
Â
I don’t know of another organization that does so much for the veterans. I am honored to part of the organization and working with such awesome people.
